Landfill Restoration Assessment in DESI Lamongan by GeoSynergy Solution
The Landfill Restoration Assessment in DESI Lamongan, East Java, was conducted by GeoSynergy Solution (PT Geo Sinergi Utama) for PT Dowa Eco-System Indonesia (DESI). This project aimed to evaluate the geotechnical and environmental conditions of the landfill area to ensure stability, safety, and sustainability. The site, previously used as plantation land, was analyzed for future landfill restoration and long-term waste management solutions.
Project Overview
GeoSynergy Solution performed an in-depth geotechnical and environmental assessment based on borehole investigations and test pit sampling at the DESI site. The project scope included:
Reviewing geotechnical data from boreholes and test pits
Conducting laboratory testing for soil and clay liner material
Evaluating slope stability using advanced PLAXIS 2D modeling
Recommending sustainable restoration and landfill safety measures
This work aligns with Indonesia’s Ministry of Environment Regulation No. P.63/Menlhk/Setjen/KUM.1/7/2016 regarding hazardous waste landfill requirements.

Field and Laboratory Findings
Field investigations were carried out in Telogo Retno Village and Brengkok Village, Lamongan. GeoSynergy analyzed:
Soil consistency: From soft clay (N-SPT 2–8) to very stiff mudstone (>30)
Water content: 19%–46% for boreholes and 32%–42% for test pits
Specific gravity: 2.67–2.78
Clay liner suitability: Classified as low to very low permeability (10⁻⁶ to 10⁻⁹ m/s), meeting environmental standards
Plasticity: High-plastic clays/silts (LL > 50%) suitable for landfill lining
These results confirm that the local clay materials are appropriate for use as natural clay liners, providing effective groundwater protection.
Slope Stability and Safety Analysis
Using data from field and lab testing, GeoSynergy Solution modeled the landfill’s slope stability under both static and seismic conditions.
Key findings include:
The safety factor (SF) for long-term stability exceeds the 1.50 threshold, meeting design requirements.
A 3.0-meter berm with a slope ratio of 1V:3H is recommended for optimal safety.
Seismic analysis (0.10g–0.14g) confirmed that the landfill structure remains stable even under earthquake loading.
The landfill design allows 167,402 m³ of waste material, optimized for long-term consolidation (1m = 44 days).
These parameters ensure landfill integrity and environmental protection throughout the landfill’s operational life.
Environmental and Sustainable Design
The assessment emphasizes environmental responsibility and sustainability. GeoSynergy’s approach ensures:
Compliance with national environmental regulations
Prevention of groundwater contamination
Sustainable use of local materials
Optimized land reuse for long-term environmental recovery
This project reinforces GeoSynergy Solution’s commitment to sustainable engineering and responsible waste management across Indonesia.
The Landfill Restoration Assessment in DESI Lamongan demonstrates GeoSynergy Solution’s capability in delivering precise geotechnical evaluations and environmentally sustainable designs.
By combining scientific data, regulatory compliance, and innovative engineering, GeoSynergy ensures safe, efficient, and eco-friendly landfill development for industrial clients nationwide.
